The research team in Fine Art, working from the Centre for Contemporary Art works around themes of site, location, dislocation and diaspora, investigating histories, secret, hidden, lost or neglected.

Among the many strands of these visual strategies we focus, among other things, upon the built environment, British culture and our so called architectural heritage. We aim to reveal, using a diverse range of visual media, the voices of the people; groups of workers, pioneering artists, the dispossessed or neglected communities, who both in the contemporary and historical context have a contribution to make to the culture of both the region as well as the international debate.

We have explored the city as a place of change and innovation, used technology to link the tension between the object, space and location and employed paint as tool for an engagement with memory and desire.
